National Bank (NA) has reported its financial results for the third quarter of 2025, showcasing a solid performance across various segments despite ongoing economic challenges.

For the third quarter, National Bank recorded a net income of $738 million, representing an increase of 3% compared to the same period last year. The results reflect continued strength in retail and commercial banking, supported by a robust demand for banking products and services, as noted in a recent report.

The bank’s diluted earnings per share were $2.12 for the quarter, up from $2.05 a year ago. Return on equity remained strong at 19.5%, signaling effective management of resources and a commitment to delivering value to shareholders. National Bank also reported a strong efficiency ratio of 55.3%, demonstrating effective cost management as operational expenses increased at a slower pace compared to revenue growth.

A key factor in the bank’s performance was a 7% increase in net interest income, totaling $1.23 billion. This rise can be attributed to higher loan volumes, as well as an increase in interest rates, which positively impacted margins. The bank’s residential mortgage portfolio grew significantly, as did loans to commercial clients, reflecting a healthy demand across financial services.

“In this quarter, we have displayed resilience against fluctuating market conditions, with strategic focus on enhancing our core banking services,” said Louis Vachon, President and CEO of National Bank. “Our teams have effectively leveraged technology and innovation to meet customer needs in an evolving financial landscape.”

Fee-based revenue also contributed positively to the bottom line. National Bank reported an increase of 5% in this segment, driven by higher wealth management fees due to robust performance in asset management services, as highlighted in recent reports on the bank’s profit rise. This was complemented by increasing transaction volumes in the bank’s investment services as clients showed a willingness to invest amidst market fluctuations.

Despite the positive outcomes, National Bank acknowledged the challenges posed by global economic uncertainties and potential slowdowns in growth. The bank reiterated its commitment to prudent risk management and maintaining a strong capital base, which is reflected in a Common Equity Tier 1 (CET1) capital ratio of 12.1%. This positions National Bank comfortably above regulatory requirements, allowing for further investments and strategic initiatives.

For shareholders, the bank declared a quarterly dividend of $0.72 per share, representing a stable return that underscores its commitment to delivering shareholder value. As of the end of the third quarter, the bank held total assets of $349.5 billion, maintaining a strong balance sheet and a diversified portfolio across various financial services.
